Collateral Damage

Have you noticed …that each sector of our society is being impacted by the pursuit of happiness? I’m grieved. I hope …we don’t allow people to become collateral damage to this culture’s hunger for success.

There’s a massive campaign that encourages us humans to become more and more disconnected from our community for the sake of “more.” Ironically, while we have more resources and opportunities, discontentment is prevalent, as it has become the driving force of the “Me first” movement.

Families are slowly being ripped apart by abandoning dinner time, date nights, and check-ins. Friendships are being strained because chasing the bag has become more important than doing life with the people we say we care about. The care of elders is diminishing … as they are passed over because they lack the speed to keep up with our ever-changing world. People once mattered to us🥺

We’re expanding our portfolio, working longer hours, and checking social media texts/emails every 2 minutes to stay on top of things, but at the expense of making eye contact when talking to someone, discerning when someone needs us, or celebrating someone’s accomplishments.

If our mind and hearts are so consumed with our personal gain that we are jaded by the needs of others …

When the pursuit of success and selfish ambitions keep us on the hamster wheel, unaware of the degradation of our humanity …

When its easier to abandon God-ordained placement, assignments, and people, because anything that or anyone who appears to be an inconvenience or hindrance  is perceived as a threat to “my success” …

…it’s time to reevaluate our moral compass.
