Higher Standard

A higher calling with a higher standard: Carnality is our kryptonite. It robs us of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit’s role in obeying God. Its danger lies in its ability to be unassuming, “not that serious”, or seemingly fun and free while its corruptive nature corrodes and eats away at our spiritual discernment. Daily, we must be willing to resubmit ourselves to the obedience of Christ in every area of our lives. Every area: where we go, who we are in fellowship with, music, goals, pursuits, TV, private life,  what consumes our time and has our attention, and our idols. We become what we habitually indulge in.

Grace empowers us to honor and obey God. It is not a tool to use for excuses. To whom much is given, much is required. We are a peculiar people, so the standard is high. Sometimes, the waring in our flesh is the struggle between the discomfort of God maturing us and our fight to remain the same. Pride resists correction and change. We want much but are we yielded to what’s required? It behooves us to take a step back and ponder: Am I truly yielded to Jesus? Or am I just a fan? Fans follow Him because of what He can do for them. Disciples of Jesus deny themselves because of what He has already done.
